BARREN ABODE

2023–2026 — 8:25 min. Black-and-white 3D animation, live music (electric guitar, bass, drums), Max/MSP generative algorithms, video projection, 4 active speakers, wireless microphones First presented at: [to be defined] Iterations: [to be defined]

A three-dimensional reconstruction shows a completely empty apartment, immersed in an overexposed white light. The rooms have no furniture, no objects, no signs of wear or of human presence. Walls, floors and ceilings appear as bare surfaces, evenly lit. The camera moves through the rooms without encountering anything that would indicate a period or a place. There are no windows showing an outside, no recognisable architectural details.

The soundtrack is a live musical composition, written in the manner of silent-film accompaniment: the musicians perform the piece in sync with the images. Two generative algorithms in Max/MSP work in conflict: one operates on mathematical sequences (generative music sequencer), the other on chaotic dynamic systems. The resulting sound is spatialised across four speakers. The music introduces rhythm, dynamic variation and accents that run against the fixity of the images. The contrast between the visual stillness of the empty apartment and the presence of live music runs through the entire work.

Parallel regime. The 3D code generates a space without a body; the live music produces a time without an image. The two systems coexist without feedback: neither modifies the other.
