DECOERENZA

2025 5 vertical Plexiglas cylinders (height 2 m, diameter 25 cm), one moving light source per cylinder, sensors (sound, presence, distance, motion), autonomous control system Installation — no performers First presented: to be defined

Five vertical Plexiglas cylinders, 2 metres high and 25 cm in diameter, are arranged in the space. Each cylinder contains a moving light source that travels along the vertical axis. An autonomous system controls the movement of the light inside each cylinder. The system reacts to environmental stimuli picked up by sensors: sound, the presence of people, distance, motion. The light response is not immediate. The delay between stimulus and reaction varies, and in some cases no response occurs. The five cylinders operate independently: they are not synchronised and do not share information. The overall behaviour of the installation changes with the conditions of the space and the number of people present. A viewer who approaches a cylinder does not obtain a direct response. The device registers the presence but translates it according to an internal logic that is not transparent. The cylinders are transparent and the internal mechanism is visible.

Here the manipulator does not exist. Five independent circuits each react on their own. The stimulus goes in; the response arrives late or does not arrive. The string between viewer and cylinder is opaque: the signal passes, but the logic of translation remains inaccessible.
