Five written instructions make up the score: “Human machine”, “There is no emotion”, “There is no conflict”, “Let yourself be carried”, “Guide her steps”. Twelve performers — Flaminia Ambrosini, Chiara Autizi, Federica Beni, Fiamma Franchi, Francesca Coderoni, Francesca Groos, Maria Di Mario, Caterina Lo Bue, Annabella Marotta, Alice Pierangeli, Elena Roscioli, Virginia Savorani — function as nodes of a human neural network. Each has a weight and a connection. They receive input from the others and produce vocal and gestural output, adjusting their response according to the feedback circulating between the nodes. There are no set elements, no objects. The body on stage follows the instructions one at a time, in the order given. The collective composition results from the feedback cycles between the performers. The title reads backwards. The critical text is by Alessio Ragno. The contribution by Lucia Testa, published in the book, offers an in-depth look at the structure of the piece.
Regime to be defined — the performers operate as a human neural network; here the string is the feedback cycle between the nodes: each output becomes input for the next node, and the signal changes at every pass.
