2025 Rope (aerial dance), genetic data (SLC9A1 gene, associated with loss of balance) First presented at: to be defined

Performative aerial-dance installation. Maria Ludovica Del Nero works on a rope suspended in the space. The starting point is the mutations of the SLC9A1 gene, associated with loss of balance in the human body. Each genetic mutation is translated into a precise physical action: a change of position, a movement of the eyes, an alteration of support. The movement sequences follow the progression of the mutations: the first are small, almost imperceptible variations; the following ones introduce ever greater destabilisation. The performer’s body reacts to each new condition by seeking a new equilibrium. The rope amplifies every shift of weight. The loss of balance is not simulated: it is produced by the physical conditions imposed by the encoded genetic sequence. The space is empty; the rope is the only vertical element. From the ground, the audience watches the postural variations and compensating attempts of the performer, who faces progressively unstable situations without a net and without interruption. The scientific review is by Elena Roscioli.

Immanent regime — the mutations of the SLC9A1 gene dictate the movement sequence. Each mutation corresponds to a physical action. The rope amplifies every shift of weight. Here the protocol is DNA, the score is the body on the rope: the loss of balance is not simulated but produced by the genetic sequence.
