TRACING

Tracing is not a performance but a protocol of negotiation. In an age of digital saturation, the work brings us back to the fragility of the physical index: Meudon white is not a pictorial material here but a temporal reagent. The action unfolds as a silent interview between two bodies: the first generates an architecture of imprints, a spatial extension of memory; the second acts as an entropic force, a corrector that turns the trace into debris. The floor becomes a dynamic palimpsest, where the act of erasing is not a negation but a form of writing. Halfway through the action, the exchange of roles breaks the hierarchy between creator and destroyer: the one who traces becomes the one who removes. What remains is not a finished work but an unresolved residue. A cartography of oblivion: memory is not what we preserve, but what survives the attempt to be removed.

Meudon white is pure calcium carbonate (CaCO₃), chemically identical to limestone, marble and lime plaster; a very fine powder, non-abrasive, chemically neutral and completely soluble in water. It is also a material commonly used in conservation. At the end of the performance the surface is cleaned with a damp cloth, leaving no residue and no alteration on stone, terracotta or plaster.
